*THE CARCASSONNE RING-ROAD CAN BE CONFUSING SO IN ALL CASES KEEP FOLLOWING SIGNS TO MAZAMET - THIS WILL TAKE YOU TO THE D118 THROUGH THE VILLAGES OF VILLEMOUSTAUSSOU AND VILLEGAILHENC, THEN THROUGH THE WINEFIELDS AND UP INTO THE FOREST, WHERE YOU WILL SEE CUXAC-CABARDÈS CLEARLY SIGNED. AFTER PASSING THE SIGN AND BEFORE THE ESTATE AGENT, TURN LEFT INTO THE VILLAGE. Click HERE for map.
** Cuxac-Cabardes Festival: During mid-August (check for dates) a festival is held over several days in the village with food, music and dancing (un Bal) until the early hours, (don’t expect to get too much sleep) one of the largest festivals in the area. Our house overlooks it and it ends on the last night with a spectacular fireworks display - we have a great view of it.
Village Facilities. The village has a bar restaurant (friendly and serving excellent food), a well stocked general store and a first class traditional baker. In addition, the village boast a butcher, pharmacy, hair dresser, dentist, post office, estate agent and notaire. Once a week, in the village square, a vegetable van and a fish monger visit, and on Monday evening a pizza van can be found by the river (his pizzas are superb). A children's adventure playground and an all-weather swimming pool are within a few minutes walk and there is a doctor's surgery nearby.
